Every Picture Tells a Story – by Rod Stewart.
In thinking about the song — I ask the question…does it really?
I believe some photos/images are simply admired for their beauty – say a close-up photo of a particularly beautiful flower after the rain, a magnificent landscape or the perfect light on a sand dune. These images can certainly hold a viewers attention, bringing to the eye details not seen before or give a new perspective on something quite familiar. Mat it and frame it and it can compliment and bring beauty to a room. Pictures that tell a story can spark curiosity and different stories can be conjured by each viewer.
Many stories unfold in front of each of us everyday. Some of us are lucky enough to have a camera handy and are able to capture it so that we may share it with you. The photographer knows the story – or at least what was real for them when they took the picture. You know a different story. We want to hear the story what you hear in whichever image, or images, you choose. Please take the time to write it here and share it with us. Sometimes a photo may be edited to add drama or emotion.
Interviews with the artists and writers – a wonderful way to take a peek into what motivates and inspires the contributors to this blog. Don’t miss the Interviews page.
No profanity, please. We invite you all – young and old – to contribute to the stories here. We strive to offer a welcoming and comfortable environment for you to do so.
FYI… I don’t comment on stories or images – I leave that to you, the contributors.
And don’t forget to subscribe (on the sidebar) so you don’t miss anything! You can also become a fan on Facebook.

Do those who write stories for the pictures retain copyright for their stories?
Thank you for your interest in Stories Without Words.
Authors would retain their rights to their works just as artists, but I know it’s always been an issue for writing on the web. I’ve reworded the copyright info on the page to better include authors. Unfortunately, I can’t slap a copyright mark over the text as I can on the images. If you (the author) put a © mark with the date and your name before or after your story will that protect you enough? I’ve looked around on the web for how authors are copyrighting their work – without actually sending in and paying a copyright fee – and all I’ve found is a statement that says the author is the copyright owner.
I would love to see what stories you have to tell. If there’s anything I can add to the blog to make it clearer to readers, please let me know.
Be well, Roka
Hi—
I read your comment and wonder if you want to write a piece about your site and I’ll post it on Word Collage.
If so—please post a link to Word Collage under links.

Hello,
I got to your lovely blog through someone’s link on Flickr. What a great idea you are putting into action here! I’ve been reading and reading for the past 30 minutes and I am still intrigued because I like writing and taking photographs…
What is the way to submit a photo? Or do you chose them?
Best!
Hi! So glad you discovered SWW! It really IS fun! You’re welcome to submit photos to us. All of our artists have an online presence where we’re able to peruse the images and choose the ones we want to use AND this allows us to link back to the artists page. If you don’t have a website, you are welcome to send me any that you think might tell a story. If you’re able to take a PNG screenshot of the image that would be great. If not, a 72 dpi 6 x 8 PNG or JPG would be fine. If you have a watermark on it that’s helpful as well, but we can also add watermarks.
As to when we would use one that we felt would work, it can be a bit random.
Are you a fan on Facebook? I post on there after an image is posted every day… You can also subscribe and/or follow us on Twitter!.
Thanks again. I look forward to seeing your images! Keep reading. There are some amazing amazing stories on here!
Be well, Roka
Once again, please just let me say thank you… to you for your total genius in creating this wonderful venue. What a great idea you had to create a place where a picture can provoke a story. I just can’t think of anything nicer. It always provides me with just the right balance of entertainment for my artist’s craving of “eye candy” and stimulation for my writer’s brain!! I come here so often and though I don’t always leave a comment, I always enjoy the visit!!
Maron
Wow… Thank you so much. I’m so happy you are enjoying the blog. It’s quite a blast on this end as well. The images are inspiring, as well as the stories. Thank you for all of your contributions. I’ve enjoyed reading them all. Please tell all of your writing friends! Be well. And thank you again.
